Jacob and Esau
The ankle bone of Esau flush against Jacob’s face, Rebbecca’s womb convulsed and they began their struggle into life in this world. Jacob found the opening first, but Esau was stronger and wrestled himself into position at the canal. Jacob, enraged, tried with his might, but Esau prevailed. Jacob’s fist clutched Esau’s ankle as he met the air and he felt the new world through the excitement in Esau’s body, first. His hold on Esau’s ankle pulled him out, as on a zip line.
Rebecca loved them both, but the eyes of Jacob found understanding in Rebecca’s face, and she was enamored first with her second child.
Esau found Isaac’s face beaming, proud of his first born son’s prowess, the struggle to win obvious, his wrinkled body exhausted from the fight with his brother. Esau reached his tiny, newly born arms to Isaac as Isaac leapt from his seat to pick him up into his arms the first time.
