Poem from 7/17/2019: Regret

The Love I have for You

And here my regrets are an ocean of little pieces

each piece what could have been

if only

and if only I did

and, also, if I didn’t do
this thing,
but did something different, better.

And, if only, if only,
if only I had known better,
or if I didn’t know and did it any way.
She’d be my wife, today, my own
if only I had better known.
And my life would be happy today.  If only.

If only.
I wouldn’t seek any more a love I haven’t found.
If only.

Here, is my love forever stunted in its growth.
Lord, where is my escape?
I can neither free myself in Love, nor in rejection of Love.
Regrets close me in on all sides.
